Our Story

First Generation
Philip G Philips was born in Nisyros, Greece. In spite of his burning desire for learning, his family could not afford to send him to the largest Island of Rhodes, or Athens, to further his education. As a result, he became a self-educated man speaking and writing in five different languages. He came to this country in 1926 and settled in New York. He had a successful and imaginative selling career. At one time he was in charge of sales in the foreign department of a large Real Estate corporation. During this time he discovered his passion for floral and plantscaping. He conceived and developed and unique idea: to supply banks, hotels, restaurants, and business places with artificial floral displays on a rental basis and service them with seasonal flowers. The idea worked well, and Phillips Flower Service became a successful thriving business. In 1960 he groomed his one and only son to take over his legacy.
